Of the scads
of therapies that I've tried for chronic pain, the Alexander Technique
seems the most effective for me. If ever a drug was taken, a joint
manipulated, a needle inserted, an exercise repeated, an operation
suffered, or unguents and ultrasounds applied, my Alexander teacher's
guidance applied to the movements in my life has proved more enduring
in relief of discomfort, and a lot more fun.

When my attorney so enthusiastically described his success with the
Alexander Technique in eliminating his back pain, I had to check it
out, because I always wanted good posture and had suffered low back
pain for 30 years. I have not only eliminated my pain, but also understand
what I was doing to create it. Also, I'm enjoying enhanced body performance
and joy in my skiing, cycling, swimming, running and weight training.
I'm using the A. T. in all aspects of my life as a core tool in mastering
the art of living.

The Alexander Technique has changed more than the way I move and walk,
it's changed my entire life. After taking lessons, I no longer consider
myself disabled.

I was seriously considering giving up my profession because of recurrent
pain in my shoulder and hip. The Alexander Technique has allowed me
to keep working - and without pain. My training in massage therapy
gave me a theoretical education in anatomy and physiology, but the
Alexander Technique gives me a profound, personal experience of my
body.

I was referred to the Alexander Technique by a physical therapist
in Switzerland, who told me that my posture was so bad that I would
not be able to walk in ten years. Cathy Pollock is a superb practitioner,
kind and caring, encouraging and patient with a process that requires
a lot of motivation and attention. This work has made a tremendous
difference in my life, helping my posture and the quality of my singing
voice.

The Alexander
Technique has helped me the most in developing my awareness - to be
able to tell when my body is under stress. Using the band saw in workshop,
I always had back pain; I accepted that as an inevitable part of using
the saw. Now, I know how to recognize what's bringing on my back pain,
and realize I can change things and avoid pain by using what I learned
in my Alexander lessons.

I had my first deep, full breath in an Alexander lesson, and it
was profound. As a flute player and a person who breathes, the ability
to breathe fully and naturally is essential. At work, it's important
for me to present myself professionally; the A. T. has changed my
appearance and demeanor so that I sit, walk and relate with poise
and professionalism. And lastly, I am pain-free. That's the best
gift I could give myself.

I teach middle school music and had chronic tension in my shoulders,
and headaches from stress. I was always tired and had to rest a
lot. After having just a few Alexander lessons, I began to use my
body so efficiently and easily that my headaches were gone and I
was filled with energy. I used to go to the chiropractor every three
weeks. Now I haven't gone to him in two years. My body is pain-free!
I love the way I feel! People always tell me I have the most graceful
posture and they don't realize it's from the Alexander Technique.
I cannot say enough about my lessons with Cathy Pollock. She is
a complete professional with a very gentle touch and many wise words
to lead the student down the path to wellness.

I originally looked into the Alexander Technique at the suggestion
of a massage therapist I was seeing for neck and shoulder pain.
I came in for help with my posture and was amazed at the direct
correlation the Alexander work had with horseback riding. It helps
me be a more balanced and effective rider. I'm able to encourage
the horse at a very deep and subtle level, which makes him happier.
The Alexander Technique is such a healthy way to re-educate our
bodies.
